What's the Difference Between Resources and Rate Card Services?

It is important to understand the differences between Resources and rate card Services.

  • Rate-card Services are the services you provide to your clients.
  • Resources are the People (or equipment) you need to perform those services.

You can schedule an Artist for 8 hours. During those 8 hours they may work for 4 hours on Flame, take a 1 hour Lunch break, and work a further 3 hours on Nuke. The Artist is the Resource, and Flame and Nuke are the Services.

It can be tempting to create an individual Service code for each Artist or Suite. While this may seem like a simply way of working, it will eventually lead to unnecessary complexity and maintenance.

Having the same Service on multiple Resources also allows you to do some more advanced reporting. eg. "How much money did we make on Flame?"

 Suggestions

The Service codes you create will be used throughout the system, and getting this list right will help make navigating iCFM a lot easier.

We recommend setting things up with fewer, less specific codes so that you can get used to using them. As you learn the software, you will be able to expand on the list.

Having too many makes it harder to locate the exact Service you need. Having too few, makes it difficult to get pricing right.
